Founded in Mihiripura, Nochchiyagama, the Kalyanaaloka Foundation provides direct material support and practical training to families and village institutions across the North Central Province. We do not provide cash handouts or short-term relief, but rather build lasting capacity through vocational tools, educational sponsorships, and community leadership programmes. Operating under traditional Buddhist stewardship principles, our work is grounded in self-reliance, mutual honour, and rigorous institutional accountability.

How programmes are delivered
A clear, transparent sequence ensuring equipment reaches dedicated participants.
Apply
Participants submit a simple form through their local village temple or community committee describing their trade needs.
Assessment
Foundation trustees conduct an in-person field visit to evaluate commitment, workspace readiness, and household suitability.
Service delivered
Tools or training are provided directly to the participant, with full serial-number registry and equipment onboarding.
Monthly follow-up
Local field officers visit monthly for two years to assist with operational questions, repairs, and community mentorship.
Tools, not cash
We do not distribute cash grants. Experience shows that financial subsidies quickly vanish into emergency living expenses, leaving the root condition unchanged. Instead, the foundation purchases brand-new, commercial-grade machinery and trade tools directly from trusted suppliers.
To ensure sustainable use and protect families from predatory lenders, Kalyanaaloka retains legal ownership of the equipment for the first two years of operation. The family works the machine daily, keeping 100% of all income generated.
Once the household demonstrates steady self-employment and active use over twenty-four months, full legal title is transferred to the craftsperson at zero cost.
Field officers conduct monthly maintenance visits and workshop audits for all 184 active equipment placements.
Institutional governance and financial transparency
Public trust demands unconditional clarity. Our operating procedures are permanently open to verification.
Dual signatures required
Every banking transaction requires signatures from both the Managing Trustee and the Board Treasurer.
Three written quotations
All equipment and procurement purchases above LKR 50,000 undergo competitive quotation and review.
Institutional asset registry
All machinery, land, and accounts are registered solely in the foundation’s corporate name, never private accounts.
Annual chartered audit
Accounts are audited annually by an independent registered chartered accountancy firm and filed with the Registrar.
Open records for sponsors
Detailed receipts, dispatch slips, and beneficiary confirmation letters are provided to programme sponsors upon request.
Irrevocable non-profit asset lock
In accordance with the constitution, upon dissolution all assets must transfer to another registered Buddhist trust.
